The Misawa Aviation and Science Museum

The Misawa Aviation and Science Museum was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It was a rainy day here in Misawa and we hadn't been there before so we decided to try it out. There are a lot of aircraft outside the museum and a lot of them you are allowed to climb inside.

This is a private collection of model aircraft from Davinci to 2009. It is pretty impressive and there are over 200 models with their box covers!

 Inside the museum, there are more aircraft, aircraft parts, and aircraft replicas. There are also a lot of "science experiment" type activities. (mostly for children) They even have a couple of rides! One is a machine that they strap you to and you control so that you feel weightless. Another is propelled by air and you go up and down and get a great view of the entire museum. They also have a couple of flight simulators. I think the museum is good to go to if you haven't been before, especially on a rainy day. If you have children, you may want to go more than once! One of my favorite parts of our visit, unfortunately, I don't have a picture. It was a special exhibit and they had a refurbished kamikaze plane. In the room they had a movie playing by some famous Japanese actor from the 40s. I should have taken a picture anyway and I do regret not taking one. I had a feeling photography wasn't allowed at the exhibit.

And of course, Miss Veedol was honored here at the museum, many, many times.

Directions: Go out the POL Gate and turn Left at the first stop light. Continue going straight (you'll go past the airport) for 2.2KM turn Left at the stop light (There is a Circle K on the right hand corner) Proceed for another 1KM to the next light and make a left. Follow this road up to the Museum. It's free for kids. 500Yen for adults. You pay at the machine on the far right wall.
